The Bay County Road Commission Safety Committee promotes a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. The committee includes representatives from supervisory staff and District Stewards from Local 1096, helping ensure that employees throughout the organization have a voice in workplace safety.

The Safety Committee meets quarterly to review safety concerns, discuss workplace incidents, evaluate procedures, and identify opportunities for additional training. Committee membership may change following union elections.

Safety Committee responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing workplace safety concerns and employee recommendations

  • Evaluating incidents and identifying preventive measures

  • Promoting compliance with applicable safety laws and standards

  • Coordinating employee safety education and training

  • Supporting monthly tailgate safety meetings in each district

  • Encouraging the proper use of personal protective equipment

  • Identifying ways to improve workplace procedures and reduce hazards

In addition to quarterly committee meetings, monthly tailgate safety sessions are held in each district. Specialized training from outside organizations is also provided as needed. The Road Commission is committed to continually improving employee safety, awareness, training, and performance.
