Sign Shop Pilot CarTyler Cianek serves as Building, Sign & Safety Supervisor for the Bay County Road Commission. He oversees the daily operations of the Sign Shop and coordinates the installation, maintenance, and fabrication of roadway signs throughout Bay County.

The Sign Shop maintains more than 6,200 signs and helps ensure that traffic-control devices remain visible, accurate, and properly placed to support the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and Road Commission employees.

Responsibilities of the Sign Shop include:

  • Installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining roadway signs

  • Fabricating regulatory, warning, guide, and specialty signs

  • Installing road-closure and construction-zone signage

  • Repairing and installing guardrail

  • Installing pavement-marking symbols

  • Responding to damaged, missing, or obstructed signs

  • Maintaining sign records and inventories

  • Performing sign-related work on state highways and trunklines under the Road Commission’s maintenance agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation

In addition to the Building, Sign & Safety Supervisor, the Sign Shop has five employees who work year-round to maintain the signs and traffic-control devices needed for safe and efficient travel throughout Bay County.
